A $6 million city plan to build a stadium and baseball field on the former War Memorial Stadium site will be sent out for bids early next year, Masten Council Member David A. Collins said today.
Collins met Tuesday evening with about 25 members of the War Memorial Stadium task force to discuss final architectural plans for the facilities. The first phase of the redevelopment at the "Rock Pile" site includes three outdoor athletic facilities that are expected to cost about $5.9 million, Collins told the group.
Included are a football and soccer field with seating for more than 1,000 spectators, an Olympic-size running track and a baseball diamond. The second phase calls for the building of an athletic field house, Collins said.
