SALAMANCA HIGH STUDENTS TO TIE 'RIBBONS FOR PEACE'

The community is invited to join students at Salamanca High School in a program to tie yellow ribbons on a Christmas tree with proceeds to benefit the Salvation Army's Christmas fund.

Donn Hensel, adviser to the local Distributive Education Clubs of America chapter, said, "tie a ribbon for peace" is the theme of the project in which a Christmas tree will be symbolic of peace in the Middle East.

A tree will be placed in the schoolyard this week and strips of yellow ribbons will be sold for $1 each at the school and several stores downtown.

A ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 when ribbons will be tied to the tree.
