Another prominent business group today predicted the economy will be in a recession in the first half of 1991.

The National Association of Purchasing Management Inc., however, expects the recession will end in the second half of 1991. Overall growth will be an anemic 2.2 percent for next year, the group said in its semiannual economic forecast.

"Although pessimistic about a recession in 1991, purchasers expect a recovery to begin in the later half of the year," said Robert J. Bertz, chairman of the group's survey committee.
