The senior citizens of Evans are preparing a Christmas celebration for 200 children up to 14 years old from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the North Main Street Senior Center.

The senior citizens will have the help Santa Claus and his elves in distributing gifts. Hot chocolate, pizza, pop, cake and cookies will be served to the children while Christmas carols are played.

Saturday's celebration will be the culmination of months of preparation. The senior citizens attended bazaars all year long selling chocolate and held fund-raising dinners. They also did a bit of gentle arm twisting as they got more than 35 local businesses to aid in their efforts.

It will be the second annual Christmas party the Evans senior citizens have sponsored.
