The new $1.5 million Lewiston Library at 305 S. Eighth St. opened Monday.
Lewiston had been without a library since Nov. 12 when the old building at 505 Center St. was closed to permit the staff to move books and other materials to the new building, a spokesman for Librarian Janet M. Domzella said.
"We have had many calls from residents wondering why we could not open so we decided to, despite the fact that we are still moving around (construction) workers," the spokesman said.
A formal dedication of the new library is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 6, the 90th anniversary of the founding of the library.
The new library will be open from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 9:30 a.m. to noon, 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
