A program on school consolidation and community decision-making will be presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus, Allegany and Chautauqua counties at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Extension Center.
David Monk, associate professor with the department of education at Cornell University will explain the results of a study on consolidation.
The entire decision-making process -- legal, legislative and community participation -- will be discussed.
Examples of the effects of consolidation on the community's identity, transportation, taxes and extra-curricular options also will be discussed.
A presentation by Russell Miller of the Pioneer Central School Board and Robert F. Dimicco, former superintendent of Chautauqua Central School, will center on their experiences in the consolidation process.
