LONE STAR FILES UNDER CHAPTER 11

Lone Star Industries Inc., a leading supplier of cement and construction materials whose business has been hurt by what it calls unfair foreign competition, said today that it has filed for bankruptcy protection.

The Stamford, Conn.-based company said it and certain of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

Lone Star said that as part of its restructuring, it plans to continue selling some assets and expects to emerge from Chapter 11 as a viable entity.
