Michigan Gov.-elect John Engler married Texas attorney Michelle DeMunbrun in a ceremony attended by about 45 friends and relatives.
"It was very beautiful," said Engler as the two emerged Saturday from St. Matthew's Catholic Church. "I'm very, very happy," he added later.
Engler, 42, and the 32-year-old bride met earlier this year through one of Engler's staff members and became engaged in August, but they kept their wedding plans secret until the day after Engler narrowly defeated incumbent Democrat Gov. James Blanchard on Nov. 6.
"We didn't want this to become part of the campaign, part of the commentary of politics, so we didn't tell anybody," Engler said.
Only a few family members and partners in the bride's Houston law firm of Nathan, Wood and Sommers were told. It is the second marriage for both.
