Ann Marie Gorski, a sophomore from Maryvale, led a host of University at Buffalo men and women who qualified for the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships at the UB Invitational Saturday at Alumni Arena.

UB placed second to Shippensburg in the 10-team men's competition. UB's women placed fourth out of 10 teams in the two-day event. Bloomsburg won the women's division.

Gorski qualified for the NCAA event in March in three events this weekend, the 400 individual medley (4:39.59), the 200 IM (2:10.92) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.39), all of which were meet records. The latter was a school record.

Angie Blaser, Lori Seifert (Lake Shore) and Andrea Torsone all qualified in both the 400 free and 200 medley relays. Blaser also qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyles, while Seifert qualified for 100 butterfly.

Six UB mermen also qualified for the NCAA Division II meet. School records were set by Brian Baggett in the 1-meter diving (475.50 points), Ray Willie (500 free, 4:35.60), and Scooter Blanchard (2nd in the 200 back, 1:55.12). Also qualifying was Robert Hermanet (2nd in the 400 IM, 4:09.04), and the second-place 400 medley relay (3:29.79), which included Tim Kenney, Eric Balzhiser, Willie and Blanchard.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: St. Bonaventure (4-1) got 14 points from Jodi Urich in a 72-59 win over Robert Morris at the Reilly Center. . . . Canisius fell to 5-2 after a 56-42 loss to Princeton in the title game of the Princeton Tournament. Jennifer McHugh had 10 points fo the Lady Griffs. . . . Jamestown CC posted a 60-44 Penn-York Conference win at Erie CC. Gail Tallchief had 16 for JCC (3-4, 2-1), while Julie Bowers (Clarence) had 21 for ECC (0-9, 0-6). . . . Visiting Mount Aloysius (Pa.) avenged a loss to Hilbert earlier this season with a 78-61 victory over the Lady Hawks. Marcy Kornegay had 27 for Hilbert. Each team is 6-1. . . . Junior Mary DelSignore scored 14 to give her 1,001 for her career, but Daemen lost to visiting Geneva, Pa., 75-63. Julie Bellavia had 28 for Daemen (1-6). . . . Geneseo State upset Buffalo State, 70-53, in a State of New York Athletic Conference game. Arlene Eagan had 17 points for the Lady Bengals (4-2, 2-1), but fouled out with eight minutes remaining. Kristin Raines had 18 for Geneseo (7-1, 2-0).

WRESTLING: Pins by Bill Stanbro (177 pounds) and Todd Webb (177) led UB's 29-13 victory over Ashland (Ohio), but the Bulls (4-1) lost to powerful Miami of Ohio, 38-0, in the double-dual at UB's Alumni Arena. Other UB winners by decision against Ashland were: Nick Rastelli (Grand Island), Todd Hammerle, Mark Hall, Paul Fiorvanti and Joe Muscarella. . . . Niagara CCC had 62 points to finish second to Morrisville CC's 80 in the Mohawk Valley Invitational. NCCC winners included tourney MVP Jason Towers (170), Mark Sullivan (121), David Brainard (129).

HOCKEY: Erie CC posted a 6-2 International Collegiate Hockey Association win over UB at Sabreland. Mark McNamara had two goals and an assist for ECC (8-0-2, 5-0-1). The Bulls are 3-8-2, 0-5. . . . Buffalo State's club team avenged a 10-5 Friday night loss to Penn State with a 7-6 win over the Nittany Lions, rallying for four goals in the third period. Bill Nashwinter had three goals and two assists, while Lance Piscitelli had two goals and two assists and Dan Goldie two goals for the Bengals (5-5-1).
