NO MEDIA BLACKOUT ON WAR PROTESTS

I feel I must respond to the letter entitled "Reporting protests undermines unity." Does the writer really want a media blackout on anti-war protests? It is a dangerous precedent and can only serve to undermine freedom.

The media's responsibility is to report all sides of the story, however disconcerting, inflammatory, or painful they may be. Do we want to limit the media to printing or broadcasting only government-sponsored stories or programs in times of crisis as do China and Iraq?

The service men and women in Saudi Arabia and their families here at home may wish to know that there are those of us actively working to bring an end to this crisis without bloodshed. Their lives matter to us. I am not a Vietnam veteran. I am the mother of two small children who remembers. We all bear the scars of that conflict. History has taught us that governments are not always right, just or all-knowing.
