To be a part of the Hospice Buffalo family is one of the greatest blessings my husband, a cancer patient, and I could experience.
We look forward to the weekly visit of a loving, caring nurse, a regular visit of an understanding doctor and the monthly home call of a compassionate and efficient social worker.
There is no lack of communication. Help is only a phone call away -- for answers to questions, prescription refills, advice, even a transfer by ambulance to the Hospice Unit in Alden for an emergency at midnight.
Medical equipment is provided as the need arises -- for instance, a travel wheelchair. Pain control is always a consideration in "symptom management." When one approach to pain control is not effective, another medicine or combination of medicines is tried until my husband is comfortable.
Our pastoral caregiver and volunteer, as well as the office and bookkeeping staff, are just as kind and helpful as the medical staff.
My husband is happy to be at home. I am his willing primary caregiver. Both of us are fully supported by a wonderful team of health care professionals.
