Clubs in District Eight, Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, received national council and state awards at the district's recent fall meeting. Beverly Walsh, district awards chairwoman, presented national awards to Pat Thomas of Amherst Garden Club for her garden therapy work in Veterans Hospital and to the Amherst Garden Club for a standard flower show in a public building. The club's show, "Flowering Yesterdays," was held in Amherst Museum.

State citations were presented to Holland Garden Club for 50 years in the state federation and to Garden Study of Lockport for 25 years. Also receiving state citations were Kenmore and Ken-Sheriton garden clubs for tree-planting programs and Kenmore, Ken-Sheriton and Orchard Park garden clubs, named outstanding clubs of 1990. Junior gardeners, with Debbie Crahen chairwoman, earned 41 state awards.

Top award winners in the district's standard flower show, "Winter Lace" in Amberleigh Retirement Residence, are Joan Kucio, East Aurora, sweepstakes; Dawn Mozgawa, Orchard Park, tricolor, and Phyllis Besch, Lancaster, creativity.
