Brian Gagliardi, a student at Case Western Reserve University Dental School in Cleveland, received a nice surprise this week when The Buffalo News phoned to tell him he had won first prize in SUPER JINGO Game 447 -- a trip for two to Orlando and Universal Studios Florida, plus $500 spending money.
"It's been a trying day, as is every day in dental school, but this is some great news," he said.
Gagliardi of Grand Island, who has never been to Florida, and his guest will enjoy four nights and five days in Orlando. The trip includes round-trip air fare on USAir, hotel accommodations, a visit to Universal Studios Florida and $500 cash.
They will stay at the Delta Orlando Resort in the heart of Orlando and enjoy its many attractions.
Set on 25 lush and beautifully landscaped acres, the resort features three outdoor swimming pools, three hot tubs, two kiddie pools, two lighted tennis courts, two saunas, a sand volleyball court, nine-hole minigolf, a chipping range, children's playground and Wally's Kids Club, a supervised activity center for children.
Universal Studios Florida features a fantasy of lights, camera, action. Universal brings Hollywood to Orlando in the 444-acre studios, offering everything from a flight with "E.T." to a terrifying encounter with "King Kong."
Flight arrangements are courtesy of USAir, which currently flies to more than 168 cities throughout the United States and Canada. USAir also travels to Bermuda, London and Frankfurt, Germany.
Other top prize winners include:
Marsh Levea of Kenmore, a weekend for two in Toronto.
Karen Kohlhagen of Buffalo, a 20-inch color TV.
Joan Kowalski of Buffalo, a weekend for two at La Tourelle, a country inn in Ithaca.
J. Anthony DiGiulio of Buffalo, $200 cash.
Levea, a veteran SUPER JINGO player, was delighted with his second prize. "I've been to Toronto but only for a few hours at a time," he said. "This sounds really great."
Levea and a friend will spend a weekend at the Regal Constellation, where they'll enjoy a dinner and Sunday brunch before returning home.
Ms. Kohlhagen was surprised to hear that she had won third prize. "My grandmother submitted my name," she said. "I can really use a TV, but I'll share with her."
"Are you kidding me? I never win anything," Ms. Kowalski said.
When she heard the description of La Tourelle, she said, "Maybe I will go!"
"I just can't believe that I finally won," she added.
DiGiulio said his cash prize was just in time for the holidays. "When you've got children, you can always use extra money at Christmas," he said.
In addition to these five winners, 95 other Western New Yorkers have been selected for a prize. If your name appears in today's winning lineup, it is not necessary to phone or visit The News. Your prize will be mailed to you.
