The problems with absentee Buffalo police should be dealt with by immediately implementing a demerit program.
These "screw-ups" would have to pay for their time off by losing percentages or all of their benefits, such as paid holidays.
Ask General Motors how it has helped.
Absenteeism is kept at a minimum at the Gear and Axle Plant on Delavan Avenue here in Buffalo. Our local union leaders labeled the offenders "screw-up" in print and put the program into effect. The police union will try to discourage a move in this direction, but they would only be protecting the "screw-ups" and not the public.
It's a real shame when so many bright young men are prevented from becoming police officers and yet somehow the system seems to be allowing screw-ups into it.
In some sections of this town, the so called police patrols are a real joke. Murder and mayhem are going on right behind their backs.
