Don Cherry's Grapevine Restaurant, the Fort Erie, Ont., sports bar that was popular with football fans seeking to watch blacked-out Buffalo Bills games on television, closed on Friday.
The bar, which is located on the Garrison Highway, was closed because of less-than-stellar sales and problems with the restaurant's location and parking, said Richard Scully, the president of Don Cherry's Grapevine Restaurants Inc. "The restaurant was not one of our better stores from a volume point of view," Scully said.
The restaurant also was hampered because it was located in a plaza without any other tenants. "It's difficult to do any marketing when you're the only tenant in a plaza," Scully said.
The restaurant franchise was owned by Hockley & Associates, which owns several other Don Cherry's franchises. Cherry, former coach of the Boston Bruins hockey team, is a prominent hockey analyst and sports personality on Canadian television.
