CELLULAR PHONE USERS CAN ISSUE DWI ALERTS

The State Police and 300,000 cellular phone users in the state are making a connection aimed at reducing accidents caused by drunken drivers.

Cellular phone customers will be able to dial star 349, or DWI, and connect directly with State Police dispatchers.

Michael Izydorczak, major account executive for Cellular One Buffalo Telephone Co., said troopers now have "a new weapon in the battle against drunk driving." Cellular phone users will be able report the location and description of vehicles being operated recklessly.
