SNOWMOBILE SAFETY COURSE SET AT ALLEGANY STATE PARK

Children between the ages of 10 and 16 who will be operating snowmobiles alone off family property must complete a safety course which is being offered free by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The session will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 at Group Camp 11 in the Red House Area of the Allegany State Park. Instructors will be from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department and Allegany State Park Police. Participants should bring along a lunch for the noon break.

Students can also bring their own snowmobiles to ride a course as part of the instruction if there is sufficient snow. Machines must be registered and must have insurance. Safety course certificates will be issued to persons completing the course.

To enroll in the course call the Sheriff's Department or stop at the sheriff's offices weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
