Alumni from Salamanca Central High School are being urged to contribute toward a perpetual fund that will provide an annual $1,000 scholarship to
The Academic Booster Club was organized three years ago, said President Richard Crist, "in an attempt to bolster the efforts of our school administration and faculty by promoting academic achievement and success in the classroom."
The club has solicited local merchants to give honor roll students discounts on food and purchases. School letters -- previously awarded only for athletic achievements -- are also given to academically successful students.
All students who rank in the top 10 of the class get a free breakfast, and Regents Scholarship winners have their photos displayed in the school.
Crist said the first annual scholarship was presented in June. A successful fund drive with a $20,000 goal will provide a perpetual fund, he said. Donations are being taken at the school superintendent's office.
