NEWS REPORTER EN ROUTE TO COVER RESERVISTS IN GULF

Buffalo News reporter Mike Vogel left Niagara Falls today on a military flight to the Persian Gulf to report on the morale and activities of Western New York reservists on duty in Operation Desert Shield.

Issued a three-day visa by the United Arab Emirates, Vogel and other local reporters will be hopping a series of Air Force cargo flights to reach military bases in the gulf region. Stops in Germany and Saudi Arabia are planned before the group reaches the air base used by Niagara Falls' 914th Tactical Airlift Group in the United Arab Emirates, at the southern end of the gulf.

In addition to covering missions and day-to-day conditions for the Air Force reservists with the 914th, Vogel also carries with him letters to members of the Buffalo Coast Guard Reserve unit from schoolchildren at St. Ambrose School in South Buffalo and St. Michael's at Greycliff School, Derby.
