A Mass of Christian Burial for John Dennis Crosby, 71, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and Civil Service employee, was offered today in St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial was in South Lawn Memorial Park, Petersburg.
Crosby died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 1990) in John Randolph Hospital, Hopewell.
Crosby was born and raised in Buffalo and was a 1950 graduate of Buffalo State College. In 1954, after returning from military service, he moved to Virginia.
He was a motor vehicle maintenance officer and served in eight different World War II campaigns in the Pacific and Mideast.
In Virginia, he was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, the Knights of Columbus and other organizations.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy B. Howard; two sons, Timothy C. of Chesterfield and J. Dennis of Richmond; two stepsons, John Howard of Colonial Heights and Bob Howard of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Dale James of Dallas and Diane Miller of Colonial Heights; a sister, Marjorie Devine of Buffalo; a brother, Thomas H. Crosby of Lock Haven, Pa., and a grandchild.
