An early morning fire that may have been caused by an electrical short left $79,000 damage today to a 20th Street building housing Big Jim's Bar and a vacant upstairs apartment, city fire officials said.

A Niagara Falls police officer on routine patrol radioed in the alarm at 485 20th at 3:21 a.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:41 a.m.

The cause of the fire in the three-story brick building is being investigated by the Niagara Falls Fire Prevention Bureau.
