A $5,000 donation -- enough for half a harp -- was made Tuesday to fund-raisers in the Orchard Park School District who are trying to buy a new pedal harp for the schools' harp program.

Orchard Park attorney Graham Wood Smith and his wife, Mary Jane, presented the check on behalf of the George G. and Elizabeth G. Smith Foundation, which is named for Smith's parents. .

"We thought this was such a worthwhile undertaking," said Mary Jane Smith. "This is a family foundation and the family is interested in music. Our funds are committed but we were able to rearrange things so that we could do this."

A parents committee kicked off a $10,000 campaign for the harp Oct. 29. A harp program is unusual in schools here and a harp is not normally a school-budgeted item.
