Genesee Community College's Outstanding Adult Student awards for 1990 were presented recently as part of Adult Student Month.
The honors, bestowed annually on adult students who have overcome significant barriers in obtaining education, went to:
Sheila Marchese of Valley View Drive, who will graduate next month with a near-perfect cumulative grade-point average and plans to transfer to Brockport State College for a bachelor's degree in psychology. Ms. Marchese, the mother of two infants, also works 25 hours a week.
Virginia Drew of Oak Orchard Road, Albion, has a 4.0 average as a full-time office technology student. She is employed in the college's work-study program and tutors others in computer technology.
Laurie Stoffa of Dewey Avenue, the mother of two small children, who helped form the Single Mother and Father Adults Returning to School Club at GCC. She is seeking degrees in Criminal Justice and Human Services, and plans to seek a bachelor's degree after graduation from GCC.
