The apparent suicide of Michael D. Hutchinson, 18, who told police he was involved in satanism, may be linked to the Aug. 1 murders of Cynthia M. Lewis, 15, and Curtis A. Rizzo, 17 months, the child she was baby sitting, a defense lawyer says.

The body of Hutchinson, missing since early November after a fight with his parents, was found Friday in Ganargua Creek. Wayne County Sheriff Richard J. Pisciotti said Monday the death is considered a suicide and acknowledged that Hutchinson, when questioned in the stabbing deaths of the sitter and child because he knew them, "admitted he was involved in satanism."

Chad Campbell, 15, has been charged with those murders, but his attorney, James Foley, said the suicide indicates the investigation is lacking. Foley said Hutchinson told him in interviews that he was a high priest in the satanic church and was Ms. Lewis' boyfriend until six months before the murders. A private investigator hired by Campbell's family has said he believes Campbell was a member of a satanic cult.
