ROBINSON NETS WINNER FOR DAEMEN

Emerson graduate Rob Robinson hit a layup with four seconds left to give Daemen College a 63-61 victory over St. Vincent's of Latrobe, Pa., Saturday.

Robinson had 21 points while Alex Nwora added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Daemen in its National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics opener. Daemen is 3-5 overall. Jackie Brown had 22 for St. Vincent (2-1, 0-1).

Elsewhere, Sandy Finney (Kensington) had 17 points for Monroe CC (6-0) in a 79-71 win at Villa Maria. Joe Williams had 16 for Villa Maria (6-2).

Alvin Mobley scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in leading Alfred State's 67-62 Penn-York Conference win over Hilbert. Rod Gallagher had 23 for Hilbert (3-5).

Damon Mason had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Niagara CCC to a 65-49 Penn-York win over Corning CC. Chris Morreale had eight points (6 of 6 free throws and four assists) to lead a second-half rally for NCCC (3-2).

Fredonia State lost, 81-65, to Keuka in the consolation of the Nazareth Tournament. Travis Eckler had 11 points for Fredonia (0-5).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Led by MVP Anne Brocker's career-high 22 points, Canisius won its third straight Lady Griffs Invitational with a 62-48 victory over Marist in the title game at the Koessler Center. Brocker and Jennifer McHugh (nine points, six steals) were named to the All-Tournament team. Colgate (3-1) took the consolation game, 62-54, over Hofstra. . . . Jodi Urich scored 30 points and MVP Sue Shay added 25 with 10 rebounds as St. Bonaventure defeated Siena, 99-93, to win their fourth straight Lady Bonnies Classic. Urich hit 11 straight from the field at one point for the Lady Bonnies (3-0). St. Francis, Pa. (1-2) posted an 85-63 win over Rider (0-3) in the consolation game. . . . UB was outscored 11-1 in overtime in a 78-68 loss to Edinboro (Pa.) in the Edinboro Tournament title game. Lorre Drennen had 20 points and 22 rebounds for the Royals (2-5). Drennen and Brandy Karhoff of the Royals were named to the All-Tournament team. . . . Arlene Eagan scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Regina Austin had 18 points as Buffalo State routed Oswego State, 80-60. . . . Fredonia State defeated Castleton State (Vt.), 77-73, in triple overtime to win the consolation game of the St. John Fisher Tournament. Liz Watson had 14 points and Nicole Newman 13 for Fredonia (3-2). . . . Jenny Acquard had 14 points for Genesee CC (3-5) in a 92-64 loss to Cuyahoga CC (Ohio) in a Flint, Mich., tourney. Genesee CC will meet Mott in today's consolation.. . . Houghton lost to host Mansfield, Pa., in the title game of the Penn-Wells Tournament. Lori Wynn had 22 and Tricia Atkinson 18 for Houghton (1-4).

HOCKEY: Erie CC (7-0) posted a 10-1 win over Mohawk Valley CC. Ed Carney had three goals and John Mathiesen had two for the Kats. . . . Fredonia State (4-5, 4-1) defeated Potsdam, 7-4, in a State of New York Athletic Conference game as Dave Maksymiucq had two goals. . . . Matt Johnson's second-period goal gave Cortland (7-3) a 3-2 win over Canisius. Pete Speranza and Jeff Maddigan had goals for the Griffs (2-7).

WRESTLING: Niagara CCC won its own invitational with 127 3/4 points to second-place Alfred State's 101 in the 10-team meet. NCCC winners include David Brainard (129 pounds), Chuck Mahoney (180) and Dan Uhteg (193). NCCC also had second-place finishes by Mark Sullivan (121), John Ederer (161) and Todd Eisenhut (193).

MEN'S SWIMMING: Jim Higgins (Depew) swept both diving events (1 and 3-meters) for Buffalo State in a 125-106 loss to visiting Grove City.
