The Rev. George M. Herbach, 74, a Buffalo native who served 45 years in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, Ill., died Saturday (Dec. 1, 1990) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Father Herbach attended the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary in Buffalo. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1938, then attended Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora.
He was ordained a priest on June 7, 1941, in Buffalo for the Diocese of Peoria, Ill., by then-Bishop John A. Duffy. He served the diocese for 45 years in several parishes: nine years as a parish assistant and 36 years as a pastor.
He retired in 1986 and resettled in Buffalo.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Betty Herbach of Eggertsville.
Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Harry A. Wedekindt Funeral Home Inc., 280 Grover Cleveland Highway, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedict's Church, 1317 Eggert Road, Eggertsville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
