A Mass of Christian Burial for John L. Boris, 70, a retired captain with the Buffalo Police Department, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 450 Abbott Road. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Orchard Park.
Boris died Friday (Nov. 30, 1990) in his Buffalo home.
He attended St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, South Park High School and Niagara University.
Boris joined the department in 1945 and was promoted to captain in 1961. At the time of his retirement in 1982, he was commander of the Theater District Station.
He received commendations from the U.S. Secret Service, FBI and a special commendation from President Richard Nixon.
An avid sailor, he was a member of the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club and the Hamburg Power Squadron, also a sailing club.
He served with the U.S. Army.
He was the widower of Helen M.
Survivors include five sons, John of Westerville, Ohio, Thomas of Dunkirk, James of Corning, and Daniel and Robert; two daughters, Mary Miller of Bradenton, Fla., and Ann Unger; two sisters, Mary Woods and Rita Thompson, and 16 grandchildren.
