EARTH DAY RALLY TO FOCUS ON OPPOSITION TO DUMP SITE

Protecting the environment and local opposition to the selection of Allegany County as the site of a low-level radioactive waste repository will be key parts of the June 17 observance of Earth Day at the Allegany County Fairgrounds here.

The event, sponsored by the Allegany County Concerned Citizens, will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and offer educational, scientific and art exhibits as well as a flea market, hayrides, nature walks, hot air balloon rides and a pet show.

Additionally, the winners of a countywide essay competition among sixth graders will be announced.

The Concerned Citizens have invited area political figures and others to address the audience beginning at 2 p.m.
