Three inmates from the Greene Correctional Facility remained hospitalized Monday following weekend outbreaks of violence.
Inmate David Watson, 33, was stabbed Sunday night in a fight with another prisoner over a telephone at the prison, said corrections spokesman James Flateau. Watson was treated at Albany Medical Center for multiple lacerations to the stomach, right hand and left thigh, hospital spokesman Elmer Streeter said.
Prison programs Monday were run as usual, Flateau said, after officials Saturday moved 85 inmates to several maximum-security prisons around the state, reducing the number of inmates at Greene to 693. That followed a fight Friday night between some 150 black and 250 Hispanic inmates in the yard of the medium-security prison, Flateau said. Two of the seven injured inmates remained in stable condition Monday.
