MARATHONER ON A ROLL IN NEW YORK

A 27-year-old wheelchair marathoner rolled across the Brooklyn Bridge Wednesday, completing a 5,000-mile cross-country trip to raise money for spinal cord research.

Joseph W. "Bill" Duff, a paraplegic since an auto accident in 1982, was met by Mayor Edward I. Koch, who placed a laurel wreath on his head, and applauded by about 200 people at City Hall.

Asked how he had managed to cover the distance in 111 days, Duff said, "when you become paralyzed, you find how much you take for granted as far as physically what you can do."
