Former major leaguer Bill Scherrer got the final five outs in relief Sunday to help the Voyageurs to a 2-1 victory over the Lockport Bus.
Scherrer, the Tonawanda native who was with the Buffalo Bisons in spring training and pitched briefly for the Oklahoma City 89ers this season, entered the game with bases loaded and one out in the eighth.
He retired the next two batters and finished the ninth to earn the save in his first appearance with the MUNY AAA team.
Starter Craig Bishop earned the win for the Voyageurs (3-0). Lockport Bus (1-1-1) is a member of the Erie-Niagara League of the Buffalo News Suburban Association.
The Erie-Niagara and MUNY AAA circuits are playing interleague games this season to supplement their schedules.
Elsewhere, Jamie Seitz, Kevin Sykes and Brad Harp combined to pitch a no-hitter as Fat Man's (1-2) defeated Clarence, 15-0, while Ed Taylor Lincoln Mercury edged Lancaster, 8-2, and Alden topped the Cardinals, 13-2.
Central League: Tim Butzer's grand slam homer and a three-run double by Bob Cygan carried Gowanda (3-0) over Delevan-Arcade, 12-5. . . . Mike Warsaw hit a three-run homer as Eden (2-0) edged Chaffee-Sardinia, 11-7. . . . Jim Landahl and Dale Williams each had three hits as Freedom (5-0) defeated East Aurora, 6-2. . . . Tom Schweizer had three RBIs as Holland edged Friendship, 7-5. . . . Jeff Potter's grand slam and seven RBIs led West Falls (2-0) over Fillmore, 20-1.
Erie-Niagara League: Rick Fink and Dave Kauderer each had two hits and two RBIs as Amherst beat Cheektowaga, 7-5.
Lake Shore League: John August fanned five in relief to help BFI (1-1) defeat Orchard Park, 8-4.
