TRIMARAN REWRITES SAILING RECORD

A 60-foot trimaran, Great American, sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge Friday to set a record of 76 days for a voyage along the legendary clipper ship route from New York to San Francisco round South America's Cape Horn.

Skipper Georgs Kolesnikovs, 46, who was born in Latvia and lives in Niagara Falls, Ont., and crewman Steve Pettingill, 37, of Newport, R.I., ended their 14,000-mile voyage and beat the previous record of 80 days and 20 hours, set Feb. 12 by Warren Luhr.
