Lefty Mark Greene tossed a three-hitter and struck out five Friday as No. 1 seed Medina dealt visiting Newfane, the No. 8 seed, a 6-2 defeat in the Section VI Class B-2 baseball quarterfinal.

Russ Beyer's sixth-inning RBI double clinched the game, while Jim Snyder and Shad Froman each singled twice for Medina (13-3).


Sophomore Amy Markovitz connected for five hits, including two doubles, as Tonawanda (7-3) routed Bennett, 18-2, in the Section VI Class B-1 quarterfinals. Laurie MacDonald contributed two doubles and five RBIs to the Warriors' effort as Jenny Grobe threw a five-hitter, fanned five and gave up one run in five innings.

Girls Soccer

Gabe Giammusso's two goals and one assist led the way as third-seeded Williamsville North toppled second-seeded West Seneca East, 4-1, in an ECIC Class A semifinal. Kristen Kolacki and freshman Meg Carey each added a goal as the Spartans outshot their opponents, 26-16. Amy Doster booted in West Seneca East's only goal. Williamsville North (12-3-1) meets Orchard Park Wednesday in the Class A title game. West Seneca East finishes the season 7-4. . . . Freshmen Michelle Lauermann and Beth Baschnagel and sophomore Missy Davis scored a goal apiece to give fourth-seeded Williamsville East (13-2) a 3-1 victory over No. 1 seed Holland in the Class B-C semifinals. Kim Luce stopped 14 shots on the Williamsville East net. Leigh Kramer's lone Holland goal was her 30th for the season. . . . Sixth-seeded Clarence upset second-seeded Amherst, 4-0, on two goals by Anita Rosenberg and one each by Jenny Clark and Julie Pecenco. Erin Belile earned the shutout for the Red Devils with seven saves. Clarence (9-3) meets Williamsville East Wednesday in the finals.
