Dolphins sign WNY native
Buffalo native Vincent Paszek, a former standout defensive lineman at Washburn University in Topeka, Ka., recently signed a free-agent contract with the Miami Dolphins.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Paszek is a graduate of West Seneca East High School.
Paszek has completed minicamp with the Dolphins and is scheduled to report to their training camp at St. Thomas University in July.
His mother, Mary Ann Paszek, resides in West Seneca.
NFL to talk with Finks
NEW ORLEANS -- Jim Finks, the president and general manager of the New Orleans Saints, will talk with the NFL committee considering candidates to become league commissioner.
Saints owner Tom Benson said he reluctantly gave permission to search committee chairmen Wellington Mara and Lamar Hunt to talk to Finks.
Judo meet to draw field of 700
Grand Island native Nick Rastelli will be among the more than 700 competitors at the 17th annual Am-Can International Judo Challenge this weekend at the Audubon Recreation Center in Amherst.
Junior competition, for ages 6 to 16, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and senior competition will be held at the same times on Sunday. The recreation center is located at Maple Road and Millersport Highway in Amherst. The event is free and open to the public.
