The Intercommunity Water Board Thursday awarded the first contract for the intermunicipal water transmission project.
The $1,389,235 contract for the construction of four miles of 24-inch water main went to the low bidder R. P. Myers Inc. of Rochester.
Water Board Chairman Delmar Brinkman was authorized to sign the contract on behalf of the Water Board.
Water Board attorney Michael Caffery told the board that negotiations for phase-two easements are nearly complete and that pictures of individual properties where easements are required will be taken before construction. This is to assure property owners that restoration work will be completed after construction.
Farnham Mayor Anna Martorana told the board that her village will participate in the water project provided it receives voting member status on the Water Board.
Caffery noted that special state legislation would be required for Farnham to become a participant in the project.
Brinkman noted the Water Board will probably meet only once a year after the 13-mile transmission main is completed since its members will not be paid.
Bid openings on phase two will be held at 4 pm. Wednesday with the contract award expected at the board's 4 p.m. meeting June 7.
