State troopers arrested a Virginia man this morning after a high-speed chase that began in Clarence and ended where the Thruway joins the inbound Kensington Expressway, authorities said.
The chase, which reached speeds in excess of 100 mph, began at 2:30 a.m. on Route 5 in Clarence when troopers spotted a car that had been reported stolen, state police said.
Troopers Richard Barrett and Daniel Lyons gave chase, following the car through Amherst on the Youngmann Highway and Thruway before the car came to an abrupt halt when trying to enter the inbound Kensington, which is closed for repairs, police said.
Another state police cruiser also joined the chase.
Troopers arrested Richard C. Brown, 32, of Virginia Beach, Va., and charged him with unauthorized use of a vehicle, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and several traffic violations.
Brown will be arraigned in Amherst Town Court.
