Home runs by Mark Fischer, who scored three runs, and David Kotz, who scored twice, paved the way to a 15-7 victory for Lancaster over Alden at Keysa Park Wednesday evening in an Erie-Niagara League game of The Buffalo News Suburban Association.
Robbie Coleman was 3 for 3 with two RBIs to help the winning effort. Jim Pernick went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Kotz was 2 for 4 for Lancaster. Winning pitcher Art Knott gave up four hits in his five innings, striking out nine.
Elsewhere, Buffalo State College basketball star Rich Winiatowski was the hero as the North Tonawanda Soos beat the Eldredge Club, 7-2, in opening-night action at Veterans Park. Winiatowski was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits in as many innings and going 3 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs. . . . Lockport Bus shut out DMI, 3-0, at Krull Park in Olcott. Mike Ritz threw a six-hitter and struck out five for the win, while D.J. Anderson went 2 for 3.
MUNY AAA: Three hits each for Jamie Keats, Paul Hollins and Pete LaCongo helped Taylor Mercury post a win over the Travelers (2-1) at Cazenovia Park, 13-8. Mike Doctor, with a triple and a double, and Chris LaCongo each added two hits as the victors raised their record to 1-2. Tom Liebler took the win with a four-inning, five-hit performance.
