Angela Visser, 22, of the Netherlands was crowned Miss Universe after being chosen Tuesday night from a field of 76 contestants from around the world.
Miss Visser, who won $300,000 in prizes, is a model and beautician from Rotterdam.
Miss Sweden, 19-year-old Louice Drerenstam, was first runner-up. Miss USA, 24-year-old Gretchen Polhemus of Fort Worth, Texas, came in third.
Miss Visser, who says she speaks five languages and has studied piano and classical ballet, has blond hair and green eyes and is 5 feet 9. She aspires to a television or film career.
