LOCKPORT MAN IS KILLED AT CLARENCE DEMOLITION SITE

A Lockport man was fatally injured shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday when a 23-foot, 800-pound steel beam slipped from a crane and struck him at the old National Gypsum plant at 8600 Roll Road, Clarence, state police said.

Marciano Ruiz Jr., 24, of 121 Gooding St., Lockport, was dead on arrival at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Amherst, police said.

Ruiz was identified as an employee of the Dolemite Construction Co., which is demolishing a steel-frame building at the closed plant, Investigators Thomas Fleschsenhaar and Gerald Wienckowski of the Clarence substation said.

correction: He was employed by William Kugler & Brothers, 5220 Junction Road, Lockport, according to state police.
