The Erie County Sheriff's Department ticketed 36 motorists for not wearing seat belts and other traffic violations during a roadside inspection in Elma Monday.
"MJ" Adelman, Sheriff's Department community representative, said the roadblock was conducted between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Seneca Street. It was the first by the Sheriff's Department in recent memory and signals more roadblocks throughout the county, Ms. Adelman said.
"This is something to make sure that the people are wearing their seat belts," she said. Motorists may also be ticketed for invalid inspection stickers, registration forms or insurance certificates.
About 250 cars were inspected during the roadblock, which was conducted by six officers.
