WATER-LINE PROBLEM CLOSES 180 CABINS AT STATE PARK

A deteriorating water line in Allegany State Park will leave 180 Quaker Area rental cabins unoccupied this summer.

Regional Parks Administrator Hugh J. Dunne Jr. said over the weekend that patrons who made reservations in that area are being informed that they will be offered full refunds.

However, those choosing to accept other accommodations will receive 50 percent rental discounts for available facilities in other areas.

Dunne said the problem was created by a leaking, 47-year-old line of antiquated cement and asbestos construction, affecting cabins and sanitary facilities in the area.

Dunne said that replacement of the 12,000-foot main would not be completed until next summer.
