PLANNING AHEAD

Whether the Bills make it to the Super Bowl is still uncertain, but the folks at the Alleyway Theater are planning for it nevertheless. Figuring on total civic fixation on championship football, the theater has canceled the Jan. 22 performance of "Acts of Contrition," a new play written by Buffalo News labor reporter Joseph Ritz. Based on the life of Trappist monk Thomas Merton and starring Fred Keller Sr., it opens Jan. 12 and runs through Feb. 5. Should the Bills not happen to be one of the Super Bowl teams, the Alleyway reserves the option of bringing back the Jan. 22 performance.
